Search our dictionary for words used to describe life, the environment and how we deal with it. a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z radiation: transmission of energy though space or any medium; also known as radiant energy. reclaimed: materials gathered from old structures or salvage yards for reuse. recyclable: material or product that, after its useful life, can be remanufactured into another useful material. recyclable plastic: resin, most often marked as 1 through 7, though more than 2,000 types exist (see plastic). recycle: minimizing waste by recovering and reprocessing usable products that might otherwise become waste. recycled paper: material containing varying degrees of recycled fiber content up to 100%. reduce: to bring down to a smaller extent, size, amount, number; to bring under control. refurbished: product that has cleaned and/or reconditioned parts. refuse: non-liquid, non-soluble (i.e. solid) waste materials that contain complex and sometimes hazardous substances. remanufactured: product is refurbished and new parts introduced to rebuild something (see refurbished). renewable: capable of being replenished through natural ecological process. restoration: measures taken to return a site to its pre-violation conditions. reusable: describes product that is built to remain useful after repeated use. reuse: repetition of recovery and reconstitution of a product for the same or new-found use. running losses: evaporation of motor vehicle fuel from the fuel tank while the vehicle is in use. |
